MSC Seaside Review 2026

What Surprised Me on My First MSC Cruise
By Jennifer Guzman | Jen's Travel Adventures
My quick verdict MSC Seaside felt noticeably different from the American cruise lines I usually sail, but that difference was part of what I enjoyed. The ship was beautiful, Ocean Cay exceeded my expectations, and the entertainment impressed me. I would sail with MSC again, especially on a longer itinerary.

My First MSC Cruise
I boarded MSC Seaside with plenty of curiosity and a few questions. I had heard mixed opinions about MSC Cruises, so I wanted to experience the cruise line for myself instead of relying on other people's reviews. This four-night sailing from Miami visited Nassau and included an overnight stay at Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. It gave me enough time to learn what felt familiar, what felt completely different, and whether MSC belongs on my future cruise list.
The short answer is yes. I would sail MSC again. The experience was not perfect, and I needed time to adjust to the ship's layout, schedule, and a few cabin quirks. Still, the value, international atmosphere, entertainment, and Ocean Cay made this a cruise I was glad I tried.
I Broke My Own Travel Advisor Rule
I am always telling my clients and viewers to fly in at least one day before a cruise. Then, on this trip, I broke my own rule. I booked the earliest flight of the morning because I thought that gave me enough time. My flight was delayed once, then delayed again. By the second delay, I was panicking and wondering whether saving a couple hundred dollars had been worth the stress. It was not.
Thankfully, I landed in Fort Lauderdale, took an Uber directly to PortMiami, and arrived in time for my noon check-in window. Monday traffic was kinder than I expected, and the actual embarkation process was incredibly fast. I was on the ship in less than ten minutes. The lesson was still clear: when possible, arrive the day before your cruise. The anxiety I created for myself was completely avoidable.
I also traveled with only a carry-on and a personal item. Technically, I did it. Did I enjoy it? No. This girl likes options, especially when themed nights are involved.
My Balcony Cabin Upgrade
Before the cruise, I won an upgrade to a Deluxe Balcony cabin. I was excited until I realized that my balcony had a metal front instead of the clear glass railing I usually prefer. I immediately worried that it would block the view and ruin the balcony experience.
It turned out to be much less dramatic than I had imagined. I could still step outside, hear the ocean, and enjoy the sunrise and sunset. The cabin felt comfortable and spacious for one person. Would I choose the same balcony style if a glass-front option were available? Probably not. But it did not stop me from enjoying one of my favorite parts of cruising.
One funny cabin mystery was the hair dryer. I could not find it anywhere. MSC lists a hair dryer and minibar among the amenities for this cabin category, so mine may have been hidden in a location I completely missed. If you sail MSC, ask your cabin steward before assuming it is not there. The minibar or cooler in my cabin was also locked, and the cabin steward could unlock it if needed.

First Impressions of MSC Seaside
MSC Seaside has a different personality from the cruise lines I usually sail. The European influence is noticeable, the passenger mix is very international, and I heard languages from all over the world. I loved that. Meeting people from different places is one of my favorite parts of travel, so the diverse atmosphere felt like a benefit rather than a drawback.
The ship itself is beautiful. The atrium, sparkling staircases, outdoor spaces, and strong connection to the ocean make an excellent first impression. MSC builds visually impressive ships, and Seaside gave me plenty to photograph. The red carpet in the cabin hallways was not my favorite design choice, but the public spaces were stunning.
Five Things That Felt Different
1. The cabin power system My key card went into the energy slot to activate the cabin lights. Because I removed it whenever I left, I usually placed it directly into my crossbody bag instead of wearing a lanyard.
2. The daily schedule Breakfast often opened around 6:30 or 7:00 a.m., which felt late to an early riser who wants coffee immediately. My first dinner seating was at 6:30 p.m., and many shows began around 7:30 p.m. Times vary by sailing, but the overall rhythm felt later than what I was used to.
3. The elevators MSC Seaside uses a destination-dispatch system. You select your floor on a screen, and the system tells you which elevator to take. It is a smart idea, but the elevators became crowded during busy periods. I used the stairs whenever I could.
4. The ship layout The main Marketplace Buffet is on Deck 8, while another buffet and restaurant area is higher on the ship. Reaching the correct elevator bank, especially when I needed the aft section, confused me at first. It took about three of my four days to stop getting turned around.
5. The international onboard style Announcements, dining, and entertainment reflected MSC's international passenger base. Travelers who expect every cruise to feel like a familiar American line may need a little time to adjust.
My best advice is to study the deck plan early and keep track of whether you are forward, midship, or aft. A few minutes of orientation on embarkation day can save a lot of wandering later.

Drinks Coffee and Extras
Because this was a short cruise, I kept my extras simple. I purchased internet but skipped the drink package. The included coffee was surprisingly good, and I was happy with the included water, tea, and lemonade. I also brought a refillable water bottle, which made things easier.
If you are not a heavy drinker, do the math before automatically purchasing a beverage package. Package rules and inclusions can change, and Ocean Cay accepts only certain eligible packages, so confirm the current terms for your sailing before you buy.
Families and Entertainment
MSC Seaside is a strong option for families. The ship offers water attractions, kids' spaces, and activities for different age groups. I can understand why families are drawn to this ship, especially during summer and school breaks.
The entertainment was good overall, but Starwalker, the Michael Jackson tribute show, was the standout. I give it five stars. The performer was incredibly talented, the energy was excellent, and it was one of the best shows I have seen on a cruise ship. Reservations were required on my sailing, and the show stayed sold out. If it appears in your MSC for Me app, reserve it early. Entertainment and reservation requirements can vary by sailing.
Nassau and Ocean Cay
Our first port was Nassau. People seem to either love it or hate it, but I always get off the ship. I manage to discover something new each time, whether I explore on my own, book an excursion, or enjoy local food and culture.
Ocean Cay was one of the main reasons I booked this cruise. Private islands usually are not the reason I choose an itinerary because I prefer exploring local history and culture. Ocean Cay surprised me. It was beautiful, peaceful, and spread out enough that it did not feel like everyone was crowded into one small area. There were plenty of places to lounge, and lunch options and beach food were available on the island.
Our overnight stay allowed me to return for the lighthouse show. I enjoyed it, although I expected more nightlife afterward. Once the show ended, the island became very quiet. That is perfect if you want a peaceful evening by the water. If you are expecting a large late-night beach party, adjust your expectations.
Theme Nights and My Vacation Style
MSC knows how to do themed nights. I brought my A-game for Tropical Night with florals and island vibes, but the White Party was my favorite. That was the night I had the most fun and the only night I stayed up past my usual 10 p.m. bedtime.
There was also a 70s, 80s, and 90s party on the final night, but I skipped it so I could rest before disembarkation. Sorry, but my rest is sacred. That is how I travel in general. I do not try to attend every activity or stay busy every minute. A quiet coffee, time on the balcony, and an unhurried afternoon are part of the vacation too.
Would I Sail MSC Again
Yes, I would sail with MSC again. I needed time to adjust to the layout, later schedule, elevator system, and a few cabin differences. Those issues did not outweigh what I enjoyed: a beautiful ship, an international atmosphere, good value, memorable entertainment, and a private island that genuinely surprised me.
Next time, I would choose a longer itinerary. Four nights went quickly, and I would like more time to experience the dining, entertainment, and ship without trying to fit everything into a short sailing.
Who Will Enjoy MSC Seaside
Travelers who enjoy beautiful modern ships and ocean-facing outdoor spaces
Families who want plenty of activities for children and teens
Cruisers who appreciate an international passenger mix
Value-conscious travelers willing to compare fares and package options
First-time MSC cruisers who are open to an experience that may feel different from familiar American cruise lines

My Final Take
MSC Seaside was a successful first introduction to MSC Cruises. I did not love every detail, but I never expect every ship or cruise line to operate the same way. Once I stopped comparing every feature with what I already knew, I appreciated MSC for what it offered.
If you are considering MSC Seaside, go with an open mind, learn the deck plan early, reserve popular entertainment, and leave space in your schedule to enjoy Ocean Cay. And please learn from my mistake: fly in the day before your cruise whenever possible.
